Worth the run down to Havant, this handsome Edwardian pub has built its name on the strength of what it pours. In warm weather it plays two cards at once: a south-facing front terrace that soaks up sun all afternoon, and a tucked-away courtyard round the back for when you'd rather sit in the shade. Up to three cask beers from local micros and a proper handpulled cider — pretty much the definition of a summer pint.
Reviewers keep flagging the sun-trap terrace and the beer range, and it ranks among Havant's best on TripAdvisor. If your afternoon's taking you that direction, aim for here.
4The Fox & Hounds, Waterlooville — the honest local

7The Royal Oak, Langstone — the view you can't beat

Nothing on this list touches the Royal Oak for a view. It sits right on the water at Langstone, gazing out across the harbour toward Hayling, and on a warm evening with the tide up there's honestly nowhere finer round here to sit with a pint and watch the daylight fade. It's the pick for setting, plain and simple — the food scores run more mixed than the leaders, but that's not what pulls you to a table on the water.
Family- and dog-friendly, and rightly busy — parking's tight, so walk the last bit if you can. Aim for sunset and don't say we didn't tell you.
The home pick — The Ship & Bell, Horndean

We couldn't pin down a clean Google score for our own village stalwart, so rather than dress up a number we can't stand behind, here's its TripAdvisor figure straight. And no Horndean summer list is honest without it: the Ship & Bell is a 17th-century Fuller's coaching inn planted right in the middle of the village, with a beer garden, London Pride on the bar and meat from award-winning local butcher Owton's on the plates. The reviews run a touch more mixed than the pubs above it — which is exactly why we've given you the number as it is — but for a village local with real history and a garden to settle into on a warm evening, it more than earns its place on any Horndean round-up.
