Horndean's location makes it an ideal base for exploring the South Downs, but the village and its immediate surroundings offer plenty of activities and attractions in their own right. Queen Elizabeth Country Park
Just north of the village, Queen Elizabeth Country Park is Horndean's greatest outdoor asset. Covering over 1,400 hectares of woodland and downland, the park offers walking and cycling trails for all abilities. The visitor centre at the base of Butser Hill provides information, refreshments, and bike hire. Butser Hill itself, at 271 metres, is the highest point in Hampshire and offers spectacular 360-degree views. The park is free to enter, though parking charges apply.
Butser Ancient Farm
Adjacent to the country park, Butser Ancient Farm is a unique experimental archaeology site. Here you can explore reconstructed Iron Age roundhouses, a Roman villa, and Anglo-Saxon buildings, all built using ancient techniques. It's educational but genuinely fascinating, bringing history to life in a way museums rarely achieve. Special events throughout the year include Celtic festivals and hands-on craft activities. Excellent for families with curious children.
Keydell Nurseries
Horndean's largest garden centre, Keydell Nurseries on Havant Road, has become a destination in its own right. Beyond the plants and gardening supplies, you'll find a large café, gift shop, and seasonal displays. The Christmas section is particularly impressive. Even non-gardeners can happily spend a couple of hours browsing. Free parking makes it an easy stop.
St. Hubert's Church
