Food waste collections start across East Hampshire on 5 October

East Hampshire District Council says food waste collections begin on 5 October, with new crews testing routes beforehand.

East Hampshire District Council said on 18 September that food waste collections will launch across the district on 5 October, and that new crews would test routes in the weeks beforehand. The council's news item covers the district as a whole rather than naming individual villages, so Horndean, Clanfield, Catherington, Lovedean, Blendworth and Rowlands Castle households are covered as East Hampshire residents.

What the route testing means

The council said the crews would not be collecting food waste during testing. In its words, they are "making sure that the routes that are planned work properly and that homes can be accessed using our new food waste vehicles." Because of the route testing, the council said collection days may change, so residents are asked to verify theirs.

What residents should do

Residents who have received a food waste caddy are advised to wait until the week before their first collection before they start using it. Caddies were being distributed through to the end of September. The council said collection day information would be made available through its MyEHDC service, and it asked residents to check their collection day on 3 and 4 October, ahead of the 5 October launch.

The council also pointed residents to the stickers on their caddies and to its website for guidance on which items can go in the food waste caddy.

The council's news item does not give further detail on collection frequency, liners or bin sizes, so check the council's website before your first collection rather than relying on assumptions.

Where to read more

You can read the council's announcement on the East Hampshire District Council website. If you have not received a caddy or are unsure of your collection day, use the MyEHDC service or contact the council directly.
