What are the Ofsted ratings for Horndean schools?

Ofsted stopped giving state-funded schools a single overall grade from September 2024, and its newer report cards grade separate areas instead, so there is no simple one-word rating for every school. Each school's most recent inspection is listed below, as shown on reports.ofsted.gov.uk, and you should read the full report before drawing conclusions.

Horndean Infant School was inspected on 6 July 2022 and was graded Good overall, with early years provision graded Outstanding (Ofsted). Horndean Technology College was inspected on 5 November 2024, with quality of education and behaviour and attitudes graded Good, and personal development and leadership and management graded Outstanding (Ofsted).

Horndean Church of England Junior School has an inspection report dated 14 July 2026. Under the new report card system every evaluation area was graded Expected standard and the safeguarding standards were met (Ofsted).

Petersgate Infant School was last inspected on 17 October 2023, and Ofsted's page shows a Good rating (Ofsted). Clanfield Junior School's report is dated 17 March 2026, with every area graded Expected standard and safeguarding met (Ofsted). Rowlands Castle St John's was inspected on 27 January 2026: early years was graded Strong standard, the other areas Expected standard, and safeguarding was met (Ofsted).

How do I apply for a school place in Horndean?

Hampshire County Council manages the main application round for Horndean's schools, which you complete online through Hampshire's school admissions pages. Horndean Junior School's admissions page confirms that Hampshire runs the main round for entry to Year 3 each September, and Horndean Technology College says Year 6 families apply through the County Admissions Service.

For secondary places starting in September 2027, the national closing date is Saturday 31 October 2026, and the national offer date is Monday 1 March 2027, according to the main-round key dates published by Thornden School for Hampshire applicants. Horndean Technology College's admissions page says families then receive a welcome and a link to the college's own online admissions portal after a place is confirmed.

For Reception places in September 2027, a Hampshire school's own admissions page, at St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, gives the deadline as 15 January 2027. Always check Hampshire's own admissions pages for your child's year group.

What about catchment areas?

Catchment areas are set by Hampshire and by each school's published admissions policy. Horndean Technology College can be contacted on 023 9259 4325 or at general@horndeantc.hants.sch.uk, and Horndean Junior School publishes its admissions policies for 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28 on its admissions page. Check your address with Hampshire before you rely on any school being your catchment school.

Open events this autumn

Horndean Junior School's homepage advertises a Year 2 open event on Friday 16 October from 9.15am to 11.00am, and its admissions page says it holds open mornings each October for prospective Year 3 parents.
